Gintama is a
Shônen Manga, which reports the adventures of several
samurais with some extraterrestrials.
In 1600, starts in Japan the Edo period, Tôkyô becomes the capital city of the country in staed of Kyôto.
During this era the country is closed to foreign influences and to foreigners by the shogunat.
For this reason the Japan is looking like a mediaval country till 1868, when the Americans arrived.
But this will not happen in Gintama for the good reason that Japan is invaded by Aliens well before 1868. These aliens are called Amantos., and they bring a very advanced technology.
They become the rulers of the country, and the shogunat members become their servants.
